Our Business Loan Program is made possible in part by the generous support of Stephen (z”l) and Nancy Grand. Stephen was a dedicated philanthropist and successful business man who believed in supporting entrepreneurs with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. When he passed away in 2021, he left a bequest to Hebrew Free Loan to create the Stephen M. and Nancy J. Grand Business Development Loan Fund. We’re grateful for Stephen and Nancy’s visionary commitment to our Business Loan program and to entrepreneurs and business owners throughout Northern California’s Jewish community.

How our Business Loan Program Works

Starting a new company comes with many challenges. We can help launch or expand your small business with an interest-free business loan from Hebrew Free Loan, and our services don’t end there. Our mission is to help your enterprise grow and succeed, so providing needed financial backing is just part of that. We offer a broad range of support and networking opportunities to assist you in achieving your goals.

As part of the loan review process, our committee of experienced entrepreneurs, business owners, and professionals will provide feedback on your business plan and guidance on your path forward. Committee members represent diverse fields and industries, but all share a history of business success and a commitment to helping grow the Jewish business community.

If you’re concerned about meeting our loan requirements, we still encourage you to apply and discuss your situation with your loan officer. Review our Guarantor FAQs here.

Participate in the Hebrew Free Loan Business Community

Interested loan recipients are invited to take part in our Business Circle program, which offers networking, mentorship, and professional development in a wide range of business areas. Events include our Business Circle luncheon, after-hours mixers, and our video series, Food for Thought.

We are proud of our loan recipients and their respective ventures, and we welcome you to join them in continued prosperity and growth. Please check out our Business Directory as well, which includes both business loan recipients, Business Circle members, and others in the Hebrew Free Loan business community.

Understand Hebrew Free Loan’s model

Hebrew Free Loan is based on principles found in the Torah, in which we are commanded not to derive personal benefit — i.e. not to charge interest — when we lend money to assist those in need. Click here to watch a short video about Parashat Mishpatim, the Torah section that contains these teachings.

We’ve proven the success of our model with a repayment rate of over 99.5%. That’s the beauty of interest-free lending. As loans are repaid, funds are recycled to make new loans. Many loan recipients also participate in our Full Circle Club, in which former borrowers pay forward the help they received by donating to Hebrew Free Loan to help the next person in need.
