The Jewish News of Northern California published an article on Hebrew Free Loan recipient Sam Genirberg who spoke at a Sept. 13 lunchtime gathering held at the Harbor Court Hotel. Genirberg survived Hitler’s invasion of Ukraine, was deported to German work camps, met and married his late wife of 68 years, and immigrated to the United States in 1948, with “no family, no assets, no country, but with a lot of confidence,” he said.
Genirberg ended up in Petaluma, and with a loan from Hebrew Free Loan, opened a chicken farm. This gave way to opening an ice cream parlor (Moo’s in Richmond) and, eventually, a career in real estate development.
